Humor in Poems
March 27, 7-8:30 pm EST
1 hour 30 minutes @ $100.00
Comedians usually try to get the audience to like them, to root for them, to be drawn in by the warmth of their personalities.
Poets have to approach the world not with warmth, but with coldness. But levity is sometimes as powerful as despair and the timing can make it as dynamic as any other poetic tool.
This class will show how humor in poetry works with close readings and examples of how to use humor effectively.

Richard Brautigan's seed packet poems entrance me. Is it because I garden? Or is it because they dig down to the essence of existence in the most temporal way? Does it matter?
I am catching up. It seems I can never read the day you release the poems. Though we have months before planting outside, people I know have their seedlings under growing lights getting ready for the big bang. This is a wonderful, diverse collection.
