Ewa Lipska (b. 1945) was among a group of Polish women poets who upended the status quo there. These included Wisława Szymborska, Julia Hartwig, and Anna Swir. Lipska’s series of poems, Dear Ms. Schubert, have been translated by Robin Davidson and Ewa Elżbieta Nowakowska into a single volume.

Adam Zagajewski describes that the cliché in Poland was that women poets were expected to write “soft, sentimental poems about love and flowers and that’s how it should be.” Lipska doesn't do any of that.

Lipska: “I will always find you in our final moment, which is, after all, eternal.”
