New Class!
I am offering a new 90-minute class on Thursday, January 30th at 7 pm (EST) on Professional Development. $100
This class is designed to help poets master what they should pay attention to outside the intensive labor of actually writing. I will offer practical advice on how to manage your writing life—how to cultivate a readership, write a bio, make a personal board of advisors, develop skills of psychological sturdiness, take inventory of your skills, and how to keep a record of your professional contacts and exchanges, among other tools.
Subscribe to The Sharpener
The paid-subscriber version of The Sharpener includes weekly installments of craft pieces, approaches to writing problems, topics in contemporary publishing for writers, and biographical features on poets I consider important.

Thanks for reminding me about the richness of Clampitt’s poems. At one point, I contemplated an essay on the tension in her work between the rich language and her oft-expressed skepticism about language.
