Thank you for posting Jane Mead’s poem — her work continues to give. I believe Ishigaki Rin’s poem references Banzai Cliff on Saipan, north of Guam. Hundreds of Japanese civilians and soldiers jumped to their deaths to avoid American capture at the end of WWII. I’ve seen film footage — horrific.
