I am leaving FB permanently. I’m grateful that so many people have subscribed to The Sharpener—Thinking Through Poetry, and I hope others will join. The daily themed poems I send to your inbox every day (except Sunday) are free.
People can sign up here.
In addition to the free subscription, I continue to offer a paid subscription, which includes the daily themed poems and a weekly column on poetry craft issues and writing problems. In December, I am offering new paid subscribers a year’s subscription– which includes archives going back to November 2020– for 50% less, which is $35.
People can sign up for this December Special here.
I am also offering a new session of Guided Poetry Reading Groups. If you sign up for the Winter 2024 Reading Group by December 31, I am offering a year’s subscription to The Sharpener for free. The $250 fee includes four monthly meetings January through April 2024, supported between sessions by prompts, guiding questions, and supplementary materials. People have found deep intellectually satisfying conversations about the art of poetry in these reading groups. Economic or other forms of precarity should never be a barrier to reading groups. I hold seats in each group for reduced- and no-fee memberships.
People can sign up for the Guided Poetry Reading Groups here.

I have had the absolute delight of being part of two of Sean’s book clubs and they have indeed been intellectually satisfying conversations about the art of poetry. It is a dream come true to be introduced to new books and poets and to look forward to talking about them for two hours with a group of other readers. Sean’s recommended secondary sources and guiding questions are challenging and illuminating - a great bonus! If it wasn’t for the constraint of time difference (I’m based in Australia) I would sign up for two at a time. Highly recommend!!!
