We can’t separate art from money, especially in America. American capitalism insists on limitless productivity without regard to human or environmental costs. Poetry is about slowing down, listening, taking notice, being generous with one’s attention, and being precise in one’s thinking. These are not practical in the terms of our society’s demands.
