The poetry of Constantine Cavafy has always radiated a sense of history brought to the present in the common bonds shared throughout time.
Now Marilyn Chin explains and expands on this through her emphasis on family values. That last roasted duck illustrates so well a dying tradition based on home as much as the emperor and nobility showing off their riches exhibits what has replaced it.
Thank you for reminding me of how much I love Ms Chin - it's been so long since I've read her and I kind of had forgotten about her.
