I wrote a paper on Bierds’s collection The Ghost Trio, for a grad school class taught by the late critic Denis Donoghue. He gave me an A — shocking for me, an older student from a non-academic background. To this day that paper, and Donoghue’s comments, are among my few meaningful memories from that time.
